How a Professional Irish Cyclist Stays Energised

How a Professional Irish Cyclist Stays Energised

How a Professional Irish Cyclist Stays Energised

Whole Supp ambassador Dillon Corkery discovered cycling upon a bad injury. Since then, he's moved to France, signed for a UCI team and represented Ireland in both the World and European championships.

We wanted to learn more about how nutrition has played a role in fuelling his career and keeping him energised.

Dillon, what's the biggest challenge you've faced during your career?

Probably my weight. When I moved to France as a teenager, weight was a big issue for me, being told I needed to loose at least 8kg on arrival to my first team.

Luckily I have a good coach and he kept me on the right track which has led to my success so far in my career.

Nutrition has been key to achieving this. It's the key to success in my sport.

Talk me through your nutrition plan.

It's very high carb. It depends on the type of session I have, but normally ranging from 60 to 120g of carb an hour.

Adequate protein intake before and after sessions and low fat is also super important.

How does nutrition fit into your daily routine?

Typical day would be:

- Breakfast (high carb)

- Training between 2-6 hours

- Back home (usually when I take my Whole Supp shake)

- Recovery- maximum (PS5)

- Bed

- Repeat!

So how long have you been taking Whole Supp in your daily routine for?

About 3 to 4 months. Normally I use it directly after a training session. The “20 minute” recovery window post exercise is easily achieved while using it. MAXIMISE RECOVERY!

What have you noticed so far?

My recovery has been rapidly improving. It's much faster now.

Whole Supp contains 5 vegetables, 2 slow-release carbs, 3 healthy fats, 2 fruit and 1 natural flavouring

Whole Supp is packed with superfoods like flax seeds, cherries, whole oats flour, pea protein, sunflower seeds, broccoli and brown rice protein that reduce inflammation and help with faster muscle recovery.

Thanks Dillon. Finally, one piece of advice to athletes looking to succeed in cycling?

Listen to your elders, trust your heart and success will follow.
