Alana, when did you get started in your rugby?

A friend introduced me to it!

And what challenges have you faced so far?

Trying to balance training 6 or 7 days a week with maintaining my college degree in Industrial Biochemistry. It takes a lot of planning an organising to make sure I have enough food before training and still block time to do college work.

Missing the nights with college friends and events has also been challenging. I just have to remind myself that there is a bigger picture and that the sacrifices will be worth it!

Finally, injury wise, I've done ligaments in my left ankle and a grade 2 AC joint. Making sure I rehab properly is key.

What's kept you motivated through that?

My teammates, my family, my drive to win and my enjoyment of rugby.

What does a typical day look like?

Gym at 6:30, then college, then training later in the evening.

How important has nutrition been in fuelling you through that routine?

Extremely important. I need to make sure I maintain and gain muscle mass to success in my sport.

What does your nutrition plan look like?

I just make sure I increase my protein intake post training and increase my carb intake before training and matches, to ensure I maintain muscle mass and have enough energy to keep going.
